Hip rehabilitation

The hip is a root joint that forms a unit with the pelvis and the lower spine; symptoms and signs often overlap, so a medical examination is essential. Besides the consequences of injury, the hip can be affected from early childhood by developmental changes, juvenile osteonecrosis, inflammatory changes and reactive synovitis of the hip, while ageing brings degenerative changes such as osteoarthritis of the hip. Total or partial hip replacement is a common reason for rehabilitation. Sacroiliac joint dysfunction sometimes presents as hip pain, and popular names and beliefs often lead to confusion. Disease of the hip and the surrounding organs results in significant functional deficits.

Below are some relatively common diagnoses and conditions. Adhesive capsulitis of the hip is the counterpart of adhesive capsulitis of the shoulder. Hip adductor strain, femoral neuropathy, neuropathy of the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve, osteoarthritis of the hip, FAI syndrome (femoroacetabular impingement), acetabular labral tear, piriformis syndrome, pubalgia or symphysitis, muscle contusions (especially of the quadriceps), total hip replacement and greater trochanteric pain syndrome are just some of the diseases and conditions that can affect the hip and the surrounding structures.
