Regional musculoskeletal problems and non-articular disorders
Regional musculoskeletal diseases, unlike systemic ones, have a limited presentation, linked to repetitive movements and overuse syndromes, but also to inflammatory and degenerative diseases. The causes can vary, and the disease may later become generalised and impair quality of life. During the medical examination and history-taking it is important to get a complete picture of the patient's daily activities. Identifying and modifying the precipitating movement is sometimes the main form of treatment.
Some of the most common diagnoses are elbow epicondylitis, rotator cuff tendinitis/tendinosis, biceps tendinitis, iliotibial band syndrome, pes anserinus syndrome, plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendinitis and many others.
