Special kinesiology

Kinesiology within physical and rehabilitation medicine involves a sound knowledge of functional anatomy, kinematics, kinetics, biomechanics and physiology. Through the basic principles of physical and rehabilitation medicine, kinesiology applies the ability to distinguish normal from abnormal, or pathological. This knowledge is used to optimise the patient's recovery, achieve better performance and prevent injuries or further tissue damage. When kinesiology is applied to – and specialised in – a particular population, organ or organ system, in illness or in health, the various branches of kinesiology arise. Successful diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal, neurological, cardiovascular and many other diseases involves complex medical principles.
