Physical medicine and rehabilitation
Magnetotherapy is a non-invasive physiotherapy method that uses magnetic and electromagnetic fields of various frequencies and intensities to treat certain diseases and disorders of the musculoskeletal system.
It is used mainly as a complementary treatment for painful and degenerative bone and joint diseases and in rehabilitation after injuries and surgery.
Depending on the type of device, the therapy can help reduce pain, improve function and stimulate certain biological processes, although the scientific evidence is not equally strong for all indications.
Magnetotherapy can be combined with exercise therapy, therapeutic exercises, manual therapy and other physical and rehabilitation medicine procedures.
We distinguish between classic pulsed magnetotherapy (PEMF), electromagnetic stimulation of bone healing and high-intensity magnetic stimulation of muscles and nerves.
Modern high-intensity inductive devices have a special place: they allow non-invasive neuromuscular stimulation and can trigger muscle contractions.
At our polyclinic, we use devices from various manufacturers, including Enraf-Nonius, which offers advanced magnetic stimulation technologies.
Some therapy systems allow magnetic stimulation to be combined with other physical stimuli, including vibration; any additional clinical benefit should be judged according to the device's characteristics and the available information.
The procedure is generally well tolerated, but contraindications must be checked first, especially in patients with implanted electronic devices.
The choice of type of magnetotherapy, parameters and length of treatment is based on a medical examination, the diagnosis and the patient's individual functional needs.
